1st Ammendment

The first Amendment is something I strongly agree with in terms of freedom of speech with a few restrictions. You have the right to your own opinions and to speak freely which is stated in the document, but if you say something that is going to be harmful to others or something that is not "safe" to say in an educational environment I don't think it is worth saying. You should always think before you act, in this case speak, and who you build yourself up as a person can really affect you later on in life. If I was at school and someone said something to me that I thought was inappropriate or made me feel uncomfortable it would be brought to the attention of someone in my school who holds a higher power than me, such as my principle, and he would deal with it appropriately. This is one example of an everyday situation in which rights can be violated and used correctly. How you act depends on what which you do and say so be careful next time you open your mouth you tell others your thoughts. It could put you in a lot more trouble than you may have been expecting....or not expecting at all.

War Propaganda

During WWII the idea of having a career as a cadet nurse is thought of to be very glamorous, but in reality it comes nothing close to it. This war poster highlights the beauty of the job and makes it seem easier than it actually is. If I were to change this poster, I would first start out by changing the colors. Yes, America is very patriotic and has many symbolic references but the red, white, and blue are too cheery for this particular message. I would change the light colors to dark colors, and make the background a dark gray as to portray the death and evil of war. Also, I would make the color of the nurses's faces very pale and sickly looking to represent the people they are taking care of. The women would also not be wearing their assigned outfits and would be wearing dark colored rags to show that they don't even have time to take care of themselves as they are too busy with patients. The twist is that there would no longer be two nurses. One of them would have a large "x" over them as to make it seem like she died on duty from catching a disease one of her patients had. "Be a Cadet Nurse" would turn into "Become sick with the dying.....the Girl Who No Longer Has A Future" as to send the message that once you take on the roll you can't get out of it. In the bottom portion of the poster the words would become rephrased into "A Lifetime Commitment....SICKNESS" instead of FREE, because you would be giving up your life to take care of others.

Importance of Communication

Relationships not only take two people to execute, but also require many key ideas in order to make it successful. One of the most important ideas I believe is to have a good sense of communication with one another. Being able to communicate not only allows you to express yourselves freely towards one another but also makes it easier to express feelings. Without this, it would be hard to explain ideas, release thoughts, and hard to share opinions. Relationships also involve communication in other ways other than talking, such as body language and expressions. These not only allow someone to "read" how you feel but also are able to show emotion at a time when words just can't explain by themselves. Being able to communicate in general also has the ability to let people form their own idea about what kind of person you are. What you say can really affect someone's judgement of you depending on opinion and personal thoughts. A relationship could mean you and a loved one or it could be as simple as your own connection with a parent or another family member. Either way, relationships allow things to happen and without communication, a relationship can not be healthy. If you are not freely able to express the way you feel at any given time, something in the later future could be affected. I believe so strongly in this, because relationships have the ability to control the rest of your life. Depending on if it is the person you are hoping to marry some day or if it is just a best friend you have had since you were in high school, people influence you strongly and help you form the mold the person you are today. So, for now, speak your mind, create new relationships, live your life, and make connections. Now affects tomorrow, and tomorrow shapes the rest of your life.

In this section of reading, Mark comes to visit Adrienne and give her all of the letters she had spent countless hours on writing to Paul. She had flashbacks to when they first met, the great times they had shared together, and the honor she held with pride about even knowing she was able to spend part of her life with such an amazing man. She was very strong for being able to think about all of the good that came out of it, even though she also suffered. Being strong also take a lot of courage , and for her to be able to share her experiences with her family and for them to be able to take something out of it also and use it to their advantage also gives you a sense of accomplishment.

This was a very short section of reading, but once again, only a few short words were able to sum up the emotion given off in the reading. "Staring into the sky, she breathed deeply, listening to the distant and imagined echo of waves as they broke along the shore on a stormy night in Rodanthe." (Page 222). This vivid and detailed, not forgetting to mention illustrated description of a memory was able to bring you right back into the beginning of the story, when the story was just a story and it was still building up and writing its chapters. Reliving the moments and cherishing the memories was only one of many ways I as a reader was able to fall in love with Rodanthe.

Nicholas Sparks is a great author for many reasons. Not only does he instantly connect you with the characters and make you wish you had a similar love story, but he has a way of pulling  you in and making you want to read the entire book all over again. Captivating, emotional, connectable, inspiring only begin to explain tactics used by him to make something so simple become only the most endearing of novels. So, to simplify my feelings towards not only this book, but by all of Nicholas Sparks books I have written him a short little letter:
Dear Nicholas Sparks,
Please write my future love story. <3

Sincerely,
Hannah

In this section of reading, Adrienne admits to getting support from her dad through the hard times after Paul's passing. Amanda, Adrienne's daughter, questions how her grandpa was able to help, because he cannot speak. Her mother had told her was able to help because he was still able to listen and with her being able to talk about it helped take a lot off of her shoulders. Amanda is currently going through a similar situation with the passing of her husband, so she gives a lot of credit to her mom for being able to handle everything in such a quiet manner. Also, Amanda realized how thankful she should be for the opportunities her family had blessed her with after losing Brent and how she needed to start being there for her own children more often.  As soon as she returned home that night she began to take advantage of what she had been blessed with, her own two sons.

The quote I pulled from this section of reading was able to sum up the lesson learned overall. The big picture was not only able to illustrate these few pages, but the whole book overall as well. "That may be true, but in a lot of ways, I wish I could be as strong as she is." (Page 215). When Amanda says this, she is talking to her brother and making it clear to him that she realizes what kind of a person she wants to be and how he doesn't have even one clue about why she feels like this is what she is determined about. Her mom's story will probably not be shared with him, well maybe not until his time comes. This was able to teach Amanda a lesson, and just like they say...you can always learn from others, especially ones who have already been in your same situation.

The portion of this reading that I was able to connect with personally was when Amanda really had her "a-ha" moment and was really able to realize what she should be thankful for in  life. There were plenty of instances where I was given something and just as quickly as I gained it, it was taken away from me. Trying to accept that is very hard, but once you do come to conclusions you really become thankful and appreciative. There are many stories such as these you may personally hear at some point in your life that will try to teach you a lesson and you should take any possible knowledge you can from those and use it to your best interest. Think now, and also think about it later.

In this section of reading, Adrienne goes through a period of something very similar to being referred to as a stage of mourning. Not grieving, but missing somebody so much, Paul Flanner, that everything else just kind of gets pushed out of the way and put aside. Until her daughter, Amanda, mentioned something that reminded Adrienne about how Paul was supposed to come and visit them for Christmas. Amanda asked why and Adrienne pointed to a note that had been sitting on the counter. The note in which Amanda read was not from Paul, which threw her off, but from Paul's son Mark. As she read the letter she began to learn how her mother had changed Paul for the good, and turning him from a father into a dad. By the end of the letter she was crying, as she found out Paul was killed in a vehicle accident. She now understands her mom's feeling of loss and it is much easier for them to connect.

The biggest concept in this book so far has come from this section of reading and although the quote I am pulling from it is not very big, it holds a lot of meaning. " I guess what I'm trying to say is, thank you." (page 206). This marks the closing in the end of Mark's letter to Adrienne as he is trying to make his point more and more clear to her. Not only does he hold so much respect for loving him and turning him into some totally different human being personality wise, but she thanks her for doing so and allowing him to spend the last short while of his life with him and the father he never really had. This moment really makes you realize how things can happen so fast and so unexpectedly; always take advantage of what you have because before you know it, you may no longer have it.

Although this part was a little hard for me to connect with, I was still able to connect with a small part. I love my dad and I am very glad for the time we get to spend together, but growing up he was not always here for me. Because my parents got divorced when I was very young and they lived in different places, I was not able to see him very often. Just like Mark, I did enjoy spending time with him but I didn't always feel like he was really there, even though he was. Especially when you are young you rely on your parents and he wasn't always there for me. Things start to fall apart before they fall back together and in this case it is very true. Even up to today we are still working things out between our issues during all of the lost time. Sometimes, things are a lot easier said than done.

In this section of reading not all that much happened. Adrienne received letters and pictures from the well known Paul Flanner, and the continuing feeling of missing him was still  there. She continues to talk to her daughter Amanda about Paul and how feelings such as hers are hard to change. She also in the section  of reading goes to visit her dad, who is currently at a nursing home, and tells him about her long lost "lover". He  feels very happy for her and knows what it feels like to be in this position. Last but not least, the only  other event to occur in this section is that Adrienne goes back to the Inn in Rodanthe to stay with her friend and they talk about their feelings. Not only does Adrienne have to spill all about Paul, but her friend is confused as to how they could have such a deep connection in such a short amount of time. Feelings really can change a lot of things in your life in a very short amount of time and changes minds just as quickly and easily.
.
This most significant in this short amount of reading would have had to be when Adrienne's dad kind of gives her his okay with her being in this long distance relationship with a man that he has never met before. He knows this is the guy, not only because of the way she talks about him, but because of how happy he has also made her and how she now seems like a totally different person; in a good way. "He smiled then, his crooked smile, and though he made no sound, when he moved his lips, she knew what he was trying to say." (Page 196). This is a great way of explaining it in a way that one knows just by reading their body expressions. Even her dad has a good feeling about this guy, and when parents see their own children happy they are also generally pretty happy about the situation.

My connection with this part of the book is being able to talk about someone over and over again and the feeling of them never ever leaving your mind. I'm not going to be specific with who exactly this person is, but every time I get to see him I can't help but smile. We have the ability to talk for hours and never run out of things to say to each other and I just couldn't picture myself feeling more lucky than I am right now. When you finally meet some person who can make you feel like a million dollars without even trying, you know they are worth keeping in your life.
