Nights In Rodanthe
Pages 109-128

In this part of the book, Paul Flanner drove to the house of the man who had sent him a letter. When he approached the house and knocked at the door the door opened and within a few moments he was told very clearly that he was unwelcome and that it was a waste of his time to come. Disappointedly and very confused he drove back to the Inn and told Adrienne all about what had happened. After that, the two of them started boarding up the Inn and preparing for the large storm that would be coming sooner than later. While they were outside, the rain came; starting out with light sprinkles and later becoming large heavy drops with wind gusts and lightening. This is when they realized that they were sharing the most perfect moment with each other, and despite the weather they both felt as if time had suddenly paused itself.

Once again this story is slowly building itself up to be the perfect dreamy love story everyone only hopes to enjoy one day. In the meantime both Adrienne and Paul become very good at talking to one another and expressing their feelings towards things. The most connected part during this section is when Adrienne comforts Paul after he is in shock with everything that happened at the house of the man who sent him the letter. “That makes me feel a whole lot better.” (Page 113). This quote refers to the time when Adrienne explains to him that the only reason they wanted Paul to show up at the house as so they could get feelings off of their chests and make him feel like a horrible person. They were just using him as a sort of therapy.

The connection I made with this part of the book was how in life you expect things to happen one way and it ends up happening the complete opposite. Things aren’t always what they’re cracked up to be. Personally I have had instances where I picture everything happening very smoothly and without any flaws, but then when the time comes I feel like everything falls apart at once. Coming from Paul’s perspective I can completely relate to how he feels after being rejected. Sometimes things aren’t very easy to comprehend, especially in this instance where things go from bad to worse in just the blink of an eye.
